Graphic designer, Carin Marzaro takes SILVER
for PIGNOLO CULTIVATING THE INVISIBLE’s outstanding book design.
It’s mid November 2021 and at the 36th annual ADCI design awards in Milano, Carin Marzaro took the SILVER METALLO AWARD for her amazing graphic design on the mixed-media, quasi technical tale now known to the world as Pignolo Cultivating the Invisible.
Since 1985, the ADCI awards have become THE quality reference for Italian creativity and design in the fields of communications, advertising and direct media, crossing all genre’s from copywriting, editorial, print and outdoor billboard to mobile, tv, radio and film. With their 2021 program exceeding 1.000 submissions, a record in the awards 36 year history, for the Pignolo book’s design to have been shortlisted by the judging panel was a remarkable achievement.
As creative director of the project, to achieve such peer recognition is just reward for Carin. As a freelance designer, operating from her small studio in Friuli Venezia Giulia, to find herself in Milan, among the esteemed company of leading Italian and international design agencies, is a mark of respect from the jury for the skill and professionalism she demonstrated.
It has to be said that the design brief I gave her was multi-elemental and voluminous in its complexity. It required innovative thinking and almost endless amounts of multi-tasking. Going far, far beyond the graphic call of duty, more than technical skill and creative flair, Carin invested heart and soul.
For a book and a subject of this invisible nature, to scoop the SILVER design award alongside so many visibly iconic Italian brands like Prada, Campari and Vogue Italia, well, that really is the stuff of dreams.
Sincere thanks again to the ADCI judges for recognizing both Carin’s capabilities and design endeavour and also for seeing the magic in Pignolo Cultivating the Invisible. Special mention for the team at Grafiche Manzanesi our typographical partners, for their printing advice, expertise and patience. Their work was equally heroic.
Naturally I’m publishing this wonderful news as a very happy client.
